| About King of the Ring Before the King of the Ring became an established MMA promotion company, we were a karate point fighting organization founded by Master Mark Caruso. The tournaments were originally held at his school which eventually grew and before long, he had to rent out local venues to accommodate the tournaments. In early 2006, Master Mark Caruso started having late night meetings at Windy City Grill, which is a King of the Ring sponsor, to discuss our tournaments and our future. The conversation started shifting from point fighting to MMA. At this time, MMA was growing very rapidly and he decided to take a gamble to promote his first live MMA event! On May 27, 2006 he hosted their first full contact MMA event named "King of the Ring 1". There were a couple hundred people in attendance. There were MMA, Kick Boxing, and Pro Wrestling bouts. Over the course of the next four events, the show began to grow. However, as any brand new company, there were a few challenges. Master Mark learned how to overcome those challenges. On January 27, 2007 he held king of the Ring 5, which was the biggest show to date. There were almost 500 people in attendance in a 300 person venue. On April 14, 2007 King of the Ring 6 was the first event where there was a cage and not a ring. This event shocked Master Mark when the audience double. As a shocking bonus, TUF 4 veteran Mr. International Shonie Carter showed up unexpectedly to "hang out". From June 16, 2007 - November 3, 2007 they promoted King of the Ring 7, 8, & 9. Over the course of these shows, our numbers started to grow more rapidly than ever before!!! With each growing show, we were getting more top quality fighters committing to fight in our events. January 25, 2008 we promoted our Collision show. This was the most massive event that we had ever put on. To this day, this was the second largest MMA event in the past 2 years with 3,500 people in attendance. The only show to pass us up was when the UFC eventually came to Chicago. From February 23, 2008 through May 31, 2008 we promoted King of the Ring 10, 11, 12, & 13. These were the biggest shows held in Joliet, Illinois where there were 1,200 - 1,500 people in attendance! We will continue to grow and we look forward to having the BIGGEST MMA extreme cage fighting event in the country! Please join us! It's going to be fun!!!! . |
